A man was killed and seven other people, including a 5-year-old boy, were wounded in separate shootings Saturday and Sunday across the city.
Police said a 30-year-old man died after being shot three times just before 11:30 a.m. Sunday inside an apartment on the 2100 block of N. 21st Street in North Philadelphia.
Officers arrested a woman at the scene and found a handgun. Investigators did not identify the suspect or release any information about a possible motive in the killing.
Two masked gunmen fired at a boy, 5, and his father, a 35-year-old man, Saturday night outside their home on the 12000 block of Verda Drive in the Parkwood section of Northeast Philadelphia, authorities said.
Police responded to the scene just after 9 p.m. and noted that at least two homes on the block were struck by gunfire.
The father, who had been shot twice in his abdomen, drove the child to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, authorities said. The boy sustained a gunshot wound to his elbow, and both victims are expected to physically recover, investigators said.
After pulling up to their house, the man and his son were approached by the gunmen, who ordered them in Spanish not to move, the father told police. When he tried to draw his firearm, which he was licensed to carry, the suspects opened fire, according to a police account of his story.
No arrests have been made in relation to the case, police said Sunday.
On Sunday morning, at around 8:45 a.m., someone shot a man in the head and both shoulders on the 2800 block of Rosehill Street in Kensington, according to authorities. The victim, whose age was not immediately known, was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.
In Rhawnhurst, a 39-year-old woman was stabbed at around 3 a.m. Sunday at a cafe on the 8000 block of Castor Avenue, investigators said. She was transported to Nazareth Hospital and is expected to survive.
Just before 3 a.m. Sunday, a 27-year-old woman was struck in her right thigh after shots were fired on the 2400 block of N. College Avenue, near Girard College, authorities said. She was hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries.
A 38-year-old man was stabbed in the chest at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday on the 6000 block of Yocum Street in Southwest Philadelphia, according to police. He was later listed in stable condition.
Police said a robbery suspect was shot during an incident at around 11:45 p.m. Saturday on the 2900 block of McKinley Street in Mayfair.
The 31-year-old man was shot once in his forearm during the alleged robbery attempt. He was taken to Nazareth Hospital in stable condition, and investigators said he is expected to face charges.
Earlier, just before 8:15 p.m. Saturday, a 39-year-old man was rushed to Temple University Hospital after he was shot in the stomach and leg on the 3300 block of Mascher Street in North Philadelphia, authorities said. The victim was later listed in critical condition.
In West Philadelphia, a man in his early 20s was in critical condition after he was shot several times at around 5:30 p.m. inside a property on the 400 block of N. 59th Street, according to police.
