Can 30 minutes define a career? Kevin Kolb is about to find out. One day after declaring Kolb his starter, Andy Reid dropped a bombshell yesterday: “Michael Vick is the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles.”
Kolb, who is 100 percent healthy, has been downgraded to No. 2.
“[Kolb is] just in a situation where an ex-superstar has regained his abilities and it’s that simple,” Reid said. “Michael Vick is playing out of his mind right now.”
It’s a total 180 for Reid, who traded away Donovan McNabb last April and labeled Kolb as the franchise’s future. After the announcement, reports surfaced that the decision came from the front office. Reid quickly dismissed the speculation as false.
“This is my decision,” Reid said, adding that he had spoken with Kolb for the past two days.
“I’m a huge Kevin Kolb fan,” Reid said. “He’s going to be a championship-caliber quarterback.”
Asked if his current Eagles team could win a Super Bowl with Vick, Reid said: “Absolutely.”
