Where to celebrate National Gluten Free Day 2020 in Philadelphia

National Gluten Free Day is January 13, and around the City of Brotherly Love there are plenty of options that lack all of the gluten but not the flavor. So make a reservation, grab a few friends and get ready to stop into some of these top Philly hotspots, because the start of this week is sure to be delicious.

Saxbys

The popular coffee chain has a ton to offer on the gluten-free side (besides their coffee obviously.) Philadelphians can stop into any of Saxbys numerous locations around the city to check out their  numerous gluten-free options including their heirloom cacao ball of energy, vanilla matcha ball of energy, plant-powered and gluten-free dark chocolate brownie, apple butter greek yogurt overnight oats, apple butter greek yogurt parfait, cranberry pumpkin seed overnight oats and all of their refreshing smoothies (Bananas for Strawberries, Vacay All Day, Daily Grind and Green Goals.)

Rex 1516

Rex 1516 is known for having incredibly decadent Southern cuisine, but what most people don’t know is that they also serve a gluten-free brunch menu. Delicious brunch entrees include shrimp and grits ($11), two eggs accompanied by gluten-free toast and jam, a side of meat and choice of hash ($9), and one of the city’s juciest hamburgers topped with pimento cheese, bibb lettuce, and bacon on a gluten-free bun ($15). If you’d rather stop by the South Street hotspot for dinner, there are still plenty of delicious gluten-free options including mussels ($13), escargot tartine ($10), cornmeal dusted rainbow trout with braised broccoli rabe, fennel and red peppers ($26) and St. Louis style spare ribs ($20 for half-rack, $26 for full).

Urban Farmer

The popular modern American “rural chic” steakhouse is the perfect destination for National Gluten Free Day. Urban Farmer features locally-sourced ingredients, Butcher’s cuts of heritage-bred beef and hand-selected seafood and poultry on their impressive menu. Gluten free highlights include Urban Farmer’s cauliflower steak ($24) with quinoa, toasted almonds and golden raisins; pan roasted duck ($34) with guajillo sweet potato purée, cider glazed turnips and duck confit; and seared scallops ($36) with caramelized celeriac, fall vegetables, quinoa and sunflower seeds; plus a variety of prime steaks, accessories and sides. According to the release, Urban Farmer’s staff is also trained to lead gluten-intolerant diners through the menu and are happy to accommodate gluten free modifications.

Ocean Prime 

Ocean Prime really pulls out all of the stops when it comes to their gluten free menu options. According to the release, Philadelphians can head to the Center City hotspot on January 13 to indulge in their mouthwatering options including their oysters on the half shell ($21/East, ($27/west), shrimp cocktail ($23), Chilean sea bass ($50) and a variety of prime steaks and accessories. More decadent options include their surf and turf, featuring an 8 oz. filet, butter-poached lobster tail, chili seared spinach, gouda potato cake and bearnaise ($67), Dutch Harbor king crab legs ($33), Freebird Farms chicken accompanied by spinach, roasted tomatoes, olives, and balsamic jus ($32), and much, much more. For dessert, guests can also take their taste buds on a ride with Ocean Prime’s seasonal selection of sorbet ($9), or crème brûlée ($11) featuring vanilla custard and caramelized sugar top, served with fresh berries.
