Woman arrested, ID’d for hit-and-run of 9-year-old

The woman who turned herself in yesterday in connection with the Parkside hit-and-run of nine-year-old Aijahanae Johnson and was released the same night was officially arrested and charged today, police said.

Safiyah Bankhead, 32, of the 1300 block of Kimberly Drive in Overbrook Park, allegedly struck Johnson while the child was riding her bike and then fled the scene.

Though Johnson was taken to the Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania in stable condition, Bankhead is charged with an accident involving death and related offenses.
