2 killed, 11 injured in weekend shootings

At least 13 people were shot in Philadelphia over the weekend, including a teenage boy who was gunned down inside a car Sunday afternoon.

Police said bullets hit three teens when someone opened fire on a blue Nissan just after 1:30 p.m. Sunday on the 2800 block of N. 21st Street in North Philadelphia.

One of the victims, described by authorities as 17 or 18 years old, was shot in the head, and medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

A 19-year-old man was rushed to Temple University Hospital in extremely critical condition with eight gunshot wounds to his torso, according to investigators. Police said an 18-year-old man was hit in the arm and is expected to physically recover.

On Saturday, a 20-year-old man died shortly after being shot in the head at around 8 p.m. on the 1700 block of W. Ruscomb Street in Logan, authorities said.

Police did not report any arrests in connection with the killings.

Meanwhile, a man was taken into custody Sunday afternoon following a shooting and a one-hour standoff with officers in Southwest Philadelphia.

Authorities said a gunman was spotted running into a property on the 2600 block of Felton Street after shooting a man once in the leg.

SWAT officers were called to the scene, and the man was taken into custody without incident at around 2:15 p.m., according to police. His name has not been released.

The victim was transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in stable condition.

Police rushed a 44-year-old man to the hospital in critical condition after he was stabbed in the chest just before 10:45 a.m. Sunday on the 200 block of E. Ontario Street in Kensington. Investigators recovered a weapon at the scene, but there were no arrests.

Two people were wounded after shots rang out at around 12:30 a.m. Sunday near the corner of 54th Street and Woodland Avenue in Kingsessing, according to authorities.

A 37-year-old man was shot once in the chest and three times in the groin, and a 44-year-old woman sustained a gunshot wound to her right shoulder. Both are expected to survive, police said.

Police said a 66-year-old man was stabbed multiple times during a robbery inside a basement apartment Saturday night in Southwest Philadelphia.

The incident occurred at around 11:45 p.m. on the 1800 block of S. 68th Street, and the victim had stab wounds to his face and chest, police said. He was transported to Penn Presbyterian in critical condition.

Investigators described the suspect as a 25-year-old woman with a small build.

Earlier on Saturday, just after 4 p.m., a 21-year-old man was shot while sitting inside his car near the intersection of Marvine and Poplar streets in North Philadelphia. He was later listed in stable condition at Jefferson University Hospital.

Gunfire left two injured Saturday afternoon in Southwest Philadelphia. Police said a 25-year-old woman was shot in the right knee, and a 31-year-old man was struck in the left leg just after 3:45 p.m. on the 2300 block of S. 66th Street. Neither suffered life-threatening injuries.

In Kingsessing, a 23-year-old man was shot in the chest and left shoulder at around 9:15 a.m. Saturday on the 1200 block of S. 55th Street. Officers rushed him to Penn Presbyterian, where he was in stable condition.

Authorities said a man was in extremely critical condition after being shot in the abdomen and buttocks at around 9 a.m. Saturday on the 1600 block of Granite Street in Frankford.

Early Saturday morning, at around 4:45 a.m., a 20-year-old man showed up at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with a gunshot wound to his right leg. He is expected to recover, and detectives did not immediately know where the shooting occurred.
