This Saturday is April 20, marking the high holiday of 4/20 — when pot imbibing, cannabis fans gather to celebrate. Throughout Philadelphia and South Jersey, 4/20 fever is alive and well. Here are some local events to check out this 4/20.
Evil Genius Block Party
The Front Street Philadelphia-based Evil Genius Beer Company is hosting its first-ever 4/20 themed block party from noon to 6 p.m. Not only are they celebrating the stoner holiday with a Pineapple Express-themed brew, The Apex of The Vortex of Joint Engineering (a hazy IPA brewed with pineapple) starting April 19, the 1727 N. Front Street 4/20 party — pet and kid friendly — will be rife with decorations steered by stoner film comedies such as ‘Harold & Kumar’, ‘Dude, Where’s My Car?’ and ‘Pineapple Express’.
Along with that, Philly’s No Man’s Band will play as the background music to your stoner soiree with dining options from the Munchy Machine food truck, and trippy vendors such as Toast (for your smoke-ware needs), New Habit Store’s natural, homemade candles, the Greenly Plant Co, and local glassblower Moka Melts. There will also be live wellness routines from Reset by Therabody.
All Buzz 4/20 Munchie Madness
Philly’s right-over-the-bridge neighbor, Collingswood, New Jersey, may be a dry town, but Chef Michael DeLone of Nunzio and Mercantile 1888 Zero Proof Bar have an idea that will lift stoner spirits high — a No Booze, All Buzz 4/20 Munchie Madness pairing dinner featuring CBD and THC beverages, cannabinoid-infused liquids offering a total THC dose of 4.5 mg per guest (below the legal micro dose) and 15 mg CBD.
Very uplifting – especially when paired with DeLone’s Hamunchie Crudo (and Lime Cannabis Spritz), Italian Chicken & Waffles (with Weed Wooder, 1 mg THC made with Mighty Kind Watermelon D9 Cannabis Seltzer) and an Up in Smoke S’more: Chocolate Brownie, Burnt Marshmallow, Chocolate Custard, Graham Cracker (with an Elevated Espresso Martini, 1 mg THC & 5 mg CBD. The festivities start at 6 p.m.
Record Store Day’s Grateful Dead box set
The Grateful Dead all-vinyl box set will be available on Record Store Day, April 20. Available only as a 2024 Record Store Day exclusive, the newly compiled Nightfall of Diamonds 4 album box set was captured from a live concert on Oct. 16, 1989 and features Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir and company jamming long and hard on familiar Dead Head anthems such as ‘Dark Star,’ ‘Attics Of My Life,’ and ‘Uncle John’s Band’. Plus, one side of the last vinyl disc in the collection has a special laser etching designed to dazzle.
City Winery Dance Party
If you go to City Winery’s 4/20 Dance Party with Philadelphia’s deepest space-iest band, The Roddenberries, and think you’re seeing the cast of television’s ‘Star Trek: Voyager’, ‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ or ‘Deep Space 9’, don’t worry – you’re not as stoned as you think. Star Trek legends Tim Russ, Robert Picardo, Bonnie Gordon, J.G. Hertzler and Robert O’Reilly will be on-board The Roddenberries’ Starship Enterprise.
