Sometimes, you just want to take a little break, sip on some tequila, eat some tacos and feel like you’re on vacation—even without having to drive outside of the city. To help with that feeling, University City hotspot Distrito is here for all of your holiday in the sun needs minus the beach, but still full of drinks, food and fun.
Distrito is Chef Jose Garces’ celebration of the culture and cuisine of Mexico City with a menu focused on the diverse street foods. Typically, the taqueria offers guests a way to dine in style indoors with bold colors, neon signs, a playful atmosphere and a unique setting, but since COVID-19 hit, Distrito has brought that same funky and fun vibe to its patio. Diners can now enjoy the experiences of this eclectic eatery both indoors and outdoors, both spaces are a treat for your eyes, but the menu is really where the star power kicks in for this place.
Distrito’s menu may be focused on street food-styles dishes, but the ingredients couldn’t be fresher. Your meal starts off on an amazing note with an array of appetizers to choose from including hot queso nachos, mushroom huarache and the delectable shrimp ceviche. For the main part of your meal, the taqueria has an assortment of specialty tacos (think chipotle braised chicken, carne asada, crispy pork carnitas, tofu chorizo, pork belly, fresh fish and more), tortas (think jefe burger, avocado, Mexican fried chicken and more), plus bowls and an assortment of sides (if you’re a plantain fan, Distritos are a must-try, and if you’re not these will turn you into one.) On top of all the enticing edible offerings, the eatery also offers taco packs for taco bars to help with all of your socially distanced celebration needs. Plus, Distrito is also now serving lunch as well.
But what’s some tacos without margaritas?
Distrito has plenty when it comes to looking for a libation to sip on. Philadelphians can choose from a wide variety of specialty and top shelf margaritas, plus other popular cocktails such as their Paloma, rum punch, red sangria and more. Guests can also choose from different wine and beer selections if they aren’t feeling cocktails or the tequila train as well.
Distrito also offers those looking to kick back with some good food and vibes a way to enjoy their offerings for happy hour as well. Hungry and thirsty diners can pick from some of the taqueria’s best menu options including their papas fritas, empanadas de queso, chicken flautas, poblano cornbread and taco flight for reduced prices alongside some enticing drink choices including their feliz margarita, devil margarita, red sangria and more.
