Lyft partners with ShopRite to help those in need

In these dire times, different organizations are teaming up to utilize their services and help communities any way they can. That sentiment certainly rings true for the popular shared-ride service Lyft and U.S. grocery giant ShopRite.

According to a release,  Lyft made an announcement yesterday cementing their partnership with ShopRite supermarkets in Philadelphia and New Jersey to offer free ride credits to local senior citizens for their grocery shopping needs. In an effort to support senior citizens, who are at higher risk during the COVID-19 outbreak, complimentary Lyft ride credits will be available during ShopRite’s newly established morning shopping hours for at-risk individuals. This promotion will run through April 15, and applies to those within a 5-mile radius of the participating locations.

“Through LyftUp, we remain committed to providing support to the communities we serve, especially in times when they need it most,” said Josh Huber, Lyft’s General Manager of Pennsylvania in a release. “Now more than ever, our senior citizens need access to basic life necessities, such as food and other household supplies. It is our hope that we can remove transportation barriers so elderly residents in Philadelphia and New Jersey can take advantage of the special senior citizen-designated shopping hours at their local ShopRite or The Fresh Grocer supermarket.”

If you or someone you know qualifies and may be interested in utilizing this service, use the code SHOPRITERIDE for a free ride credit to any of the following locations: ShopRite of Brooklawn (Route 130 & Browning Road, Brooklawn, NJ), ShopRite of Oregon Ave. (24th & Oregon Ave., Philadelphia), ShopRite of Island Avenue (2946 Island Ave., Philadelphia), ShopRite of Bensalem (2200 Bristol Pike, Bensalem), Fresh Grocer of Wyncote (1000 Easton Road, Cedarbrook Plaza, Wyncote) and Fresh Grocer of Monument Road (4160 Monument Road, Philadelphia.) Those looking for hours of operation for a specific store can find out more on its specific social media page.

“We are striving to respond to the needs of our Associates, our customers, and the communities we serve each day as the coronavirus health crisis continues to evolve,” said Jeffrey Brown, President & CEO of Brown’s Super Stores. “Through our Lyft partnership, we are able to support our at-risk senior ShopRite customers with special shopping hours along with access to transportation to and from their homes. We are all in this together – and our partnership with Lyft is another example of that.”

This latest promotion comes on the heels of LyftUp’s announcement to partner with public health entities, local governments, nonprofits and community organizations in providing tens of thousands of rides to those with essential transportation needs during the coronavirus pandemic.

The full LyftUp programming works toward allowing citizens of all ages, incomes and zip codes access to affordable, reliable transportation to get where they need to go.

Lyft has said if you are either a driver or a passenger and are feeling sick, you should still choose to stay home at all costs.
