Lyft partners with ShopRite to help those in need

According to a release,  Lyft made an announcement yesterday cementing their partnership with ShopRite supermarkets in Philadelphia and New Jersey to offer free ride credits to local senior citizens for their grocery shopping needs. In an effort to support senior citizens, who are at higher risk during the COVID-19 outbreak, complimentary Lyft ride credits will be available during ShopRite’s newly established morning shopping hours for at-risk individuals. This promotion will run through April 15, and applies to those within a 5-mile radius of the participating locations.

“Through LyftUp, we remain committed to providing support to the communities we serve, especially in times when they need it most,” said Josh Huber, Lyft’s General Manager of Pennsylvania in a release. “Now more than ever, our senior citizens need access to basic life necessities, such as food and other household supplies. It is our hope that we can remove transportation barriers so elderly residents in Philadelphia and New Jersey can take advantage of the special senior citizen-designated shopping hours at their local ShopRite or The Fresh Grocer supermarket.”

This latest promotion comes on the heels of LyftUp’s announcement to partner with public health entities, local governments, nonprofits and community organizations in providing tens of thousands of rides to those with essential transportation needs during the coronavirus pandemic.

The full LyftUp programming works toward allowing citizens of all ages, incomes and zip codes access to affordable, reliable transportation to get where they need to go.

Lyft has said if you are either a driver or a passenger and are feeling sick, you should still choose to stay home at all costs.
