North Philadelphia man charged with starving elderly parents

A North Philadelphia man has been charged for starving his elderly mother and father and not calling authorities when his dad died.

Thomas Hauck, 57, was arrested this morning and charged with third degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and abuse of a corpse for the 2011 death of his father. He is also charged with reckless endangerment in connection with the malnourishment of his mother.

The body of Leonard Hauck, 82, was discovered in the Haucks’ home on Kirkwood Road when paramedics were called to care for his wife on Dec. 26, 2011. Thomas Hauck told them that his father had died several days earlier but that he didn’t know what to do with the body.

Leonard Hauck was severely malnourished at the time of his death, weighing 79 pounds at 5 feet 7 inches.
