Phillies Notebook: Roy Halladay fine, calls out reporters

Roy Halladay is sporting an UN-Halladay-like 10.56 ERA in three spring starts. On Wednesday, he was pulled in the third inning after allowing five runs on seven hits. FOXSports.com cited sources saying that Halladay’s velocity was down and he may be nursing a balky arm.

Ruben Amaro quickly denied that report Thursday.

“There’s nothing wrong with him,” the Phils GM said. “He’s fine.”

Halladay was also questioned about his health. The two-time Cy Young winner adamantly denied it.

“That’s poor reporting at the extreme end of poor reporting,” Halladay said. “It couldn’t be further from the truth.”

Halladay did acknowledge, however, that his velocity has been down.

“The older you get, the more you throw, the longer it takes you to get yourself going,” said the 34-year-old. “When I came up, I threw 98. Last year, I was throwing 92-93. It’s not unusual.”
