The city of Philadelphia is known for many reasons, not the least of which is its passion for sports. Philadelphians are so passionate that the city has also become known for greasing its poles ahead of major sporting events. Combining those two passions makes for an all-time event, which is exactly what Red Bull and Penn’s Landing are bringing to Philly.
On Saturday, July 27, 100 participants will gather at The Estuary in Spruce Street Harbor Park to try to capture the flag at the end of a greased-up telephone pole. A play off of Red Bull Yagli Direk, which originated in Turkey, Red Bull Championship Run is the Philadelphia equivalent of the timeless event.
The competitors will face a fierce test of speed, skill, and determination, but for those in attendance, the job will be much easier. Watch Philly-area gladiators compete for the ultimate taste of greased glory, or watch as their hopes and dreams slip away into the Delaware River. Either way, it will be one of the most thrilling events of the summer.
