There’s just something extra sweet about seeing Jonathan Papelbon blow a save against the Phillies.

It was sweet when it happened last season — after he was traded to the Nationals. And it was sweet Sunday afternoon, when a Freddy Galviscapped off Philly’s extra inning comeback effort with an RBI-single in a 3-2 win.

Heading into extras tied at one-apiece, JeanmarGomez looked in line for a loss after he allowed a line-drive homer to NL MVP Bryce Harper.

But the Phillies rag-tag, makeshift offense showed they have some fight in them. And some clutch too.

Ice cold Peter Bourjoshit a one-out double in the last of the tenth and with two outs, Andres Blanco hit an RBI-single to tie things at two. Papelbon relented his third hit of the inning when Galvishit a line-drive double on a 1-2 pitch to life Philly to a win after back-to-back ugly setbacks at home.

Carlos Ruiz added Philly’s earlier run on a solo shot off of Nats’ starter Gio Gonzalez.

Phillies fans no doubt remember the off-beat, off-putting remarks the veteran closer — who is on top of the Phillies’ all-time save list — said about his team after the team failed to contend during his tenure. Eventually he was moved to NL East rival Washington and until Sunday he had been perfect with a lead and the ball in his hand.

Now at 6-7, the Philspitching staff returned to form after Charlie Morton tossed six frames of one-run baseball. The Phils bullpen (save for Harper’s homer off of Gomez in the tenth) was also solid and kept things at bay.

The National League onslaught continues Monday as the Mets come to Philly for the first time this season for a three game set to conclude the Phils’ 10-game opening homestand. Noah Syndergaard will be on the hill for New York opposite Jerad Eickhoff in the opener, a 7:05 start (on CSN).
