That sea of rainbow flags heading from Center City to Penn’s Landing could only have meant one thing: Philly Pride Day.
The 27th Pride Parade began Sunday in the heart of the Gayborhood at 13thand Locust streets before wending its way to Penn’s Landing.
This year’s Pride Celebration also marked the 50th anniversary of the first-ever Annual Remindersprotest – which began in 1965 in front of Independence Hall with 40 protesters demanding equal rights for gays and lesbians.
Democratic mayoral nominee Jim Kenney and Gov. Tom Wolf both spoke to crowds at Penn’s Landing to express their support for LGBT rights.
The 2014 Philly Pride Parade, which came just weeks after a federal judge invalidated a state law banning gay marriage, was notable for 13 couples getting wed in a mass ceremony.
