As one New York Giant healed and returned to action another was still shelved, no doubt straining the patience of his new team.
Eli Manning, fresh off his 12-stitch wound, practiced all last week and then went on to start in Saturday’s lackluster defeat to the Baltimore Ravens. At least he had a chance to play. As the final Sept. 4 roster cut looms, backup Jim Sorgi is well aware he may actually be a casualty just because the staff hasn’t seen him in action.
“I don’t know if their patience is wearing thin but I’m sure it is,”?said Sorgi, who has been out for weeks with an injured throwing shoulder. It’s just a numbers game and getting to be that point [cut downs]. It’s a tough position for me to be in and a tough position for them to be in.”
Sorgi said that after yesterday’s visit to the doctors his shoulder still “wasn’t looking good,” making that old coaching axiom of ‘a player can’t make the club from the tub’ no doubt creeping deeper into Sorgi’s mindset.
“It all depends on what the team wants to do.”
