Police are investigating an explosion that hospitalized a man in South Philadelphia Friday afternoon.
Officers responding to reports of an explosion responded to the 2200 block of Juniper Street near Jackson Street around 3:20 p.m. They saw smoke coming from the residence and found a man laying on the living room floor.
The man was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for scrapes and complaints of pain to his left side.
Fire marshals responding to the scene declared the incident a case of arson.
During the course of the investigation, authorities determined that the injured man was involved in a landlord-tenant dispute and had made several statements that he was going to blow up the house and kill himself.
He was admitted to the hospital for observation and is currently in police custody.
A building inspector from L&I said that no citations would be issued to the property
