This month, the annual charitable incentive from Philly PR Girl (and presenting sponsor, The O’Hara Home Team) will be in full swing. The Turkey Day Tailgate happens every year, and in 2024, the activation will be held on Sunday, Oct. 13, in the Linc parking lot from 8 a.m. to noon.
The outdoor event is part football, part charity, with plenty of food, drinks and activities to take up the time. The charity portion this year comes in support of the North Light Community Center, whose goal is to support and strengthen their diverse neighborhoods by meeting the evolving needs of individuals and families.
North Light was founded as North Light Boys’ Club by Principal Anne Wright and Police Captain Franklin P. Luckman in 1936. The organization started as a drop-in center to divert community youth from delinquency and petty crime, and evolved to what it is today—a place where children can learn and play safely, teens can learn skills to prepare them for college and career opportunities, and families and individuals in need receive critical assistance, according to their site.
To help, all guests are encouraged to bring a non-perishable item to donate before enjoying day, which will feature live music, food, drinks, appearances and more.
As a release notes, sponsor iHeartMedia will bring Q102’s Rach on the Radio to host an event alongside DJ Nugget. Philly Sports Trips will also be on-site to bring along special guests Hollis Thomas (Former Philadelphia Eagle) and The Philly Sports Guy. There will also be various tailgating games, photo opportunities, and raffle prizes.
Food and drink-wise, the Turkey Day Tailgate will be serving up a selection of bites and sips from some local and well-known brands. MudHen Brewing Company will post up with their Beer Trailer to serve a selection of brews (including a Pumpkin Beer and a special green beer in honor of the Birds), Tito’s Handmade Vodka will be providing crafted seasonal cocktails and City Winery Philadelphia will be pouring out fall mimosas.
On the menu, Philadelphians can find Turkey Gobbler Sandwiches from Pastificio Deli, specialty dumplings from Brooklyn Dumpling Shop PHL (including a limited-time Thanksgiving dumpling to stick with the theme), and Philly Food Works will be setting up a Harvest Corner complete with a caramel apple station. The Tailgate will also feature an assortment of wings and pulled pork sandwiches from Di Bruno Brothers, various breakfast pastries from Bimbo Bakeries, and more.
A few other local businesses will be in attendance this year, including Wild Rose Trucker Bar where you can “Make Your Own Trucker Hat” and GLDN RULE offering permanent jewelry (for an additional cost that benefits the North Light Community Center). Jjones Graphics will offer face painting, Party Host Helpers will be on site offering services, M & M Mobile Bar Company will post up with their drinks on wheels, and more.
Tickets for Turkey Day Tailgate can be purchased online via Eventbrite. This event is 21+ unless accompanied by an adult. To learn more about the occasion, visit phillyprgirl.com, and to learn more about North Light Community Center, visit northlightcommunitycenter.org
