1 killed, 10 injured in weekend violence

At least one person was killed and 10 others were injured in violence Saturday and Sunday in Philadelphia.

Just before 12:30 p.m. Sunday, a 24-year-old man was shot several times in his torso on the 6400 block of Lawndale Street in the Lawndale section of Northeast Philadelphia, authorities said.

He was taken to Einstein Medical Center, where he died a short time later. No one was apprehended in the immediate aftermath of the killing.

Later Sunday afternoon, at 3:30 p.m., gunfire erupted near 4th Street and Lehigh Avenue in Fairhill, leaving a 14-year-old boy with a graze wound to his foot, according to police. He was hospitalized in stable condition.

In Kensington, someone shot a 27-year-old man in his foot at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday on the 3100 block of Rorer Street, investigators said. His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

About 15 minutes earlier, also in Kensington, two people were wounded when shots were fired on the 100 block of W. Cumberland Street, according to authorities.

Police said an adult man was shot 9 times, and, while he suffered serious injuries, he is expected to survive. The other victim, a 29-year-old woman, was in stable condition after being struck in her calf, investigators said.

A man and a woman were hospitalized following a stabbing just after 2 a.m. Sunday inside a house on the 2300 block of N. Park Avenue in Hunting Park, police said.

Authorities said a 23-year-old man sustained wounds to his armpit and chest, and a 21-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times in both hands. Both are expected to physically recover. Officers arrested a suspect at the scene, but no further information was released.

On Saturday, just after 11 p.m., a 35-year-old man was stabbed in his neck inside a house on the 300 block of Diamond Street in North Philadelphia, police said. He was later listed in stable condition.

A 23-year-old man was in “critical but stable” condition after being stabbed in the dining area at Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility, which is part of the city’s jail complex on State Road, police said.

The incident occurred at around 8 p.m. Saturday, and the victim was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital. Authorities released no details about a possible suspect.

In West Philadelphia, someone shot a 20-year-old man in his leg at around 6:45 p.m. Saturday on the 3800 block of Wyalusing Avenue, investigators said. He was hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Earlier, at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, a 20-year-old man was shot six times outside on the 1200 block of Cambridge Court in North Philadelphia, authorities said. He was taken to Temple University Hospital in stable condition, according to police.
