Police are investigating a frightening early-morning Holmesburg home invasion that left a man hospitalized.

Officers responding to screams coming from the 8800 block of Cottage Street found a man, 52, standing outside his front door with gunshot wounds to his face and upper chest.

The man stated that two unknown assailants forced their way inside his house, one armed with a handgun, and demanded money. After taking $800, they ordered him to lie face down on the floor. He complied, but soon heard a loud bang and felt pain on the right side of his face.

The offenders fled. The homeowner was taken to Aria-Torresdale Hospital, where he is in stable condition.
